Dhoeybaw Clan Muruyg
Dhoeybaw (Woeway) Clan Muruyg is Budia. There are stories of Budia, including the recording below, as well as those documented in Margaret Lawrie's Myths and Legends of Torres Strait. There are two general accounts from the Samu and Dhoeybaw clans about who the first man on Saibai was.
The Dhoeybaw account describes Budia arriving first and later welcoming Melewal, who emerges from the sea carrying a shell. The two live on Saibai in shells and can shift forms, with Budia also appearing as a willy-wagtail. Years later, the brothers Nima and Poipoi arrive searching for their missing sister, Ereu, and meet Budia and Melewal, who have not seen her. Before they leave, Budia says he will return underground forever, leaving behind the hole where he lived and the willy-wagtail as enduring signs of his presence.
